【摘要】:Anumberoffactorssuchastheconditionoftheentryandbacksurfacesoftheplate,theinclinationoftheultrasonicbeamwithrespecttotheentrysurface,andtheperformancecharacteristicsofthetestsystemmaycauseeitherareductionofisolatedindicationsorasubstantiallossofbackreflectionandtherebycouldseriouslyimpairthereliabilityofthetestprocedureoutlinedinthisstandard.Accurateevaluationsofdiscontinuitysizealsomaybelimitedsignificantlybyvariationsinbeamcharacteristicswhichexistinmostsearchunits.Forthisreason,discontinuitysizeasdeterminedbythetestprocedureoutlinedinthismethodisregardedasx201C;apparentx201D;orx201C;estimatedx201D;inrecognitionofthelimitedquantitativevalueofthemeasurement.Becausealargenumberofinteractingvariablesinatestsystemcanadverselyinfluencetheresultsofanultrasonictest,theactualquantitativeeffectsofdetecteddiscontinuitiesuponthemechanicalpropertiesoftheinspectedplatearedifficulttoestablish.Consequently,thisultrasonicinspectionmethodisnotapplicableasanexclusiveindicatoroftheultimatequalityandperformanceofpressurevesselsbutprovidesareliablecontrolofplatequalitytoavoidfailureduringtheformingprocessforfabricationofvessels.1.1Thismethodcoverspulse-echoultrasonicinspectionofaluminum-alloyplateofthicknessequaltoorgreaterthan0.500in.(12.7mm)foruseinthefabricationofpressurevessels.Theultrasonictestisemployedtodetectgrossinternaldiscontinuitiesorientedinadirectionparalleltotherolledsurfacesuchascracks,ruptures,andlaminations,andtoprovideassurancethatonlyplatethatisfreefromrejectablediscontinuitiesisacceptedfordelivery.1.2Theinspectionmethodandacceptancecriteriaincludedinthisstandardshallbelimitedtoplateofthefollowingaluminumalloys:1060,1100,3003,Alclad3003,3004,Alclad3004,5050,5052,5083,5086,5154,5254,5454,5456,5652,6061,andAlclad6061.1.3Thismethodappliesonlytoultrasonictestsusingpulsedlongitudinalwaveswhicharetransmittedandreceivedbyasearchunitcontainingeitherasinglecrystaloracombinationofelectricallyinterconnectedmultiplecrystals.Ultrasonictestsemployingeitherthethrough-transmissionortheangle-beamtechniquesarenotincluded.1.4Thismethodshallbeusedwhenultrasonicinspectionasprescribedhereinisrequiredbythecontract,purchaseorder,orreferencedplatespecification.1.5Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsarethestandard.TheSIvaluesinparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.6Thisstandardmayinvolvehazardousmaterials,operations,andequipment.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyproblemsassociatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
